Whacky Unusual Wedding Cakes with a Difference.

Occasionally, I will make a traditional tiered wedding cake, possibly consisting of ivory fondant and some flowers but more often than not the couples that come to me want a wedding cake with a difference. A wedding cake which is incredibly personal and very particular to them.
Often the wedding cakes tell a story specific to the couple..
Here are some unusual wedding cakes, some with funny stories behind them.
Most of these wedding cakes I created many years ago. ...but I'm just showing you some of the ones that really stand out for being unusual because if you are planning a  a wedding, maybe  these cakes will give ideas.


CAKES THAT SHOW PLACES WHERE COUPLES GOT ENGAGED OR MARRIED
In 2010 I created a waterslide wedding cake. The Wild West Falls Adventure Ride at Movie World . This is where the groom popped the question.


Some of you may know of the UK’s  Walkabout pubs. in 2010 I made a replica of the infamous Shepherd's Bush Walkabout. The couple met at this pub.


This crazy tall wedding cake tells the story of Rebecca and Matt, how they met at Chaser’s nightclub and how their worlds slowly came together. Their house can be seen on the penultimate tier and the top tier shows their forest wedding.


Head table cakes are also very popular. Every member of the marriage party can be seen wearing copies of the clothes that they are wearing on the day. The reception floor is also copied and sometimes there is even a mini cake on the bridal table cake itself !

HOBBY WEDDING CAKES
Some wedding cakes reflect the hobbies and interests of the couple.

In 2010 I made this Lego castle wedding cake with bride and groom Lego men. In 2010 I also made a Super Mario themed wedding cake, a Scrabble wedding cake and a quite a few boat wedding cakes.
4wd wedding cakes came popular, more often than not the car is stuck in the mud and bride is annoyed!
Sporty wedding cakes have been a strong theme. I have created wedding cakes of mountains with cyclists and climbers. I have created wedding cakes for skiers, snow boarders and surfers.

One of the most unique wedding cakes was one of my book lover wedding cakes. I created the Great A'Tuin from Terry Pratchett’s Discworld fantasy novel series. The Giant Star Turtle that carries four giant elephants who in turn carry the Discworld. Wedding Cakes for book lovers have always been extremely creative

There options are endless, there are so many possibilities depending on your passions . You could have a Marvel/ Superhero wedding cake, a Dr Who wedding cake, a music themed wedding cake, a Star Wars wedding cake , a Titanic wedding cake , a computer themed wedding cake. Anything is possible!

Alternatively there are more personal options , cakes so personal that only the couple would know the whole story behind the cake!!…..

EXTREMELY PERSONAL AND UNIQUE WEDDING CAKES

Why is there a cake of Donald Duck and aMexican skeleton sitting in a Jacuzzi? Why is Donald Duck flexing his muscles? This was an extremely personal wedding cake that only the couple would relate to!

I very much enjoyed creating the rainbow wedding cake. The pattern on the cake tiers mimicked the pattern on the grooms’ wedding suits.
The couple arrived on a horse dressed up as a unicorn. The wedding cake reflected the wedding theme of rainbows and unicorns.

QUIRKY WEDDING CAKES
Some wedding cakes may not be particularly personal but they are a far cry from the traditional white tiered wedding cakes . I have made many quirky wedding cakes that are colourful and bold in colour and in design .



THE FALLING OVER WEDDING CAKE
My wedding cake was pretty whacky! After my wedding I recreated the design a number of times but who was the very clever person who designed and created my cake? My very clever brother.
I am known for being a little bit accident prone, hence I am falling off the top of the cake.  My husband who likes to brew beer is at the bottom with his pint still in his hand!
I have recreated versions of this design a number of times, including the one  for Anna and Andrew which shows the design of the invitation within the tiers of the cake. The pattern and texture of the paper can be seen wthin the fondant.
I have made an upside down wedding cake where the groom is getting crushed by the cake,and I have made a cake that is falling due to the dogs causing havoc on the cake !
